Blackgrass (Alopecurus myosuroides) is a monocot weed in the Poaceae family.  In Poland this weed first evolved resistance to Group A/1 herbicides in 2011 and infests Winter wheat.   Group A/1 herbicides are known as ACCase inhibitors (Inhibition of acetyl CoA carboxylase (ACCase)).  Research has shown that these particular biotypes are resistant to fenoxaprop-P-ethyl, and pinoxaden and they may be cross-resistant to other Group A/1 herbicides.

General information for Black grass (Alopecurus myosuroides) 

In the years 2009-2011 seeds samples from 10 fields were collected. The seeds become from the fields were farmer inform problem with control black grass. Susceptible biotype was used as standard. Two four replication greenhouse experiments was done.

At first experiment in one dose of 4 herbicides with difference mode of action were applied.  

At second experiment fenoxaprop-P-ethyl and pinoxaden  each in 7 deference dose were used, (low and high dose). For each treatment four pot were used as four replication. And 4 weeks after treatment, the plants were cut at the soil surface and their fresh weight was determined. Statistical analysis of date from greenhouse experiments was performed.

In one site one year field trials with fenoxaprop-P-ethyl used with 2 doses were determinate.  

Mechanism of Resistance. unknown.

Genetic. The genetic basis of resistance for this biotypes  is unknown.

Relative Fitness. There is no done.

Confirmation Tests

Greenhouse trials comparing a known susceptible Blackgrass biotype with this Blackgrass biotype have been used to confirm resistance. For further information on the tests conducted please contact the local weed scientists that provided this information.

Genetic studies on Group A/1 resistant Blackgrass have not been reported to the site.  There may be a note below or an article discussing the genetics of this biotype in the Fact Sheets and Other Literature
