INTRODUCTION STERILE OAT
Sterile oat (Avena sterilis ssp. ludoviciana) is a monocot weed in the Poaceae family.  In Iran this weed first evolved multiple resistance (to 2 herbicide sites of action) in 2010 and infests Winter wheat.  Multiple resistance has evolved to herbicides in the Groups A/1, and B/2.  These particular biotypes are known to have resistance to clodinafop-propargyl, iodosulfuron-methyl-sodium, and mesosulfuron-methyl and they may be cross-resistant to other herbicides in the Groups A/1, and B/2.

Confirmation Tests

Greenhouse, and Laboratory trials comparing a known susceptible Sterile oat biotype with this Sterile oat biotype have been used to confirm resistance. For further information on the tests conducted please contact the local weed scientists that provided this information.

Genetic studies on Group A, B/1, 2 resistant Sterile oat have not been reported to the site.  There may be a note below or an article discussing the genetics of this biotype in the Fact Sheets and Other Literature
